Dominant Real Madrid beat Rayo to stay unbeaten at Bernabeu since 1996. Mbappe brace powers Real Madrid to 4-1 win over Rayo Vallecano.

Real Madrid brushed aside city rivals Rayo Vallecano 4-1 under Jose Mourinho, bouncing back in LaLiga and extending their unbeaten home record against them to January 1996. It now stands at 16 wins and 2 draws at the Bernabéu.  

Madrid had already hit four goals in each of their first two home league games this term, and they were halfway to doing it again within 17 minutes.

Alvaro Carreras was involved in both early goals. He first nipped the ball off Florian Lejeune, drawing a clumsy foul in the box that Kylian Mbappe converted coolly from the penalty spot.

Lejeune was at fault again three minutes later. His loose backpass gifted possession to Vinicius Junior, and after a slick one-two between Mbappe and Carreras, the defender turned scorer to tap in.  

Benat San Jose used a third different keeper this season, and debutant Emil Audero earned his keep midway through the first half. He spilled a fierce Vinicius strike but reacted quickly to smother the rebound before Mbappe could pounce.

Los Blancos were relentless. Vinicius’ driving run set up Bellingham, who side-footed in calmly to put Madrid three up before the break.

Thibaut Courtois wasn’t completely idle before the break and had to make a couple of saves. After half-time he could only watch as Pedro Diaz’s thunderous strike beat him, hit the post and flew past.

The hosts didn’t heed the warning. Rayo forced a turnover high up, found Camello, and he finished with a neat dinked toe-poke to extend Rayo’s scoring streak in LaLiga to 12 matches.

The game opened up as Rayo chased a way back in, but Real struck late to kill it off. Mbappe added a fourth on the break with a precise finish, sealing his 14th LaLiga brace for Los Blancos.

The result stretched Real’s strong Bernabéu form to 19 wins and 1 draw in 21 home league games since last season. They also drew level with Barcelona at the top, with an extra game played.
