EPL: Perfect Arsenal See Off Sunderland To Lead Premier League
| Sunderland Vs Arsenal |
Arsenal go three points clear after victory at Sunderland. Bruno Guimaraes stunner helps Arsenal beat Sunderland 2-0 to stay perfect.
Raya penalty save and Saka spot-kick seal Arsenal’s win at Sunderland...
The game’s first big chance went to Bukayo Saka, but he mistimed his shot from eight yards and Robin Roefs saved easily. At the other end, Daniel Ballard missed a golden opportunity at the back post from Granit Xhaka’s excellent delivery.
The Gunners stayed on the front foot. Magalhaes fired inches wide, then Havertz forced a smart tip-over from Roefs with a quick reaction shot.
Despite Arsenal dominating possession, Sunderland still threatened before the break. Enzo Le Fee dragged a 25-yard strike well wide.
Sunderland had failed to beat any top-five side from last season in the league, drawing five and losing five. They came out with more aggression after the break looking to change that.
That pressure paid off in the 54th minute when Ezri Konsa hauled Daniel Ballard down inside the six-yard box.
The Frenchman took responsibility from 12 yards, only for Raya to dive low and make a brilliant save.
Raya’s heroics sparked Arsenal into life. Bruno Guimaraes, introduced at half-time, marked his debut goal in red and white with a superb curling strike from distance.
The goal took the wind out of Sunderland for a spell. Saka then missed a great chance to make it 2-0, firing straight at Roefs from 12 yards.
Regis Le Bris’ side didn’t give up, however. Nordi Mukiele came close twice with efforts from close range.

Sunderland kept pushing late on, but left gaps at the back. Reinildo fouled Saka in the area and was sent off for a second booking, allowing the winger to slot home from the penalty spot and send Arsenal three points clear at the top of the Premier League.
