Tottenham midfielder Lucas Bergvall has committed his future to the club by signing a new long-term contract.
The 20-year-old has been on the bench for Spurs’ last two Premier League matches against Newcastle United and Nottingham Forest, and was handed a fresh deal this week.
Bergvall was the subject of offers from both Newcastle and Nottingham Forest over the summer after expressing concerns about his minutes. That issue has continued under head coach Roberto De Zerbi.
He was already tied to Tottenham until 2031, but reports this week revealed he has now put pen to paper on another long-term extension. The exact length of the new deal has not been confirmed.
Bergvall Backs Spurs’ Project After Signing New Deal
The Sweden international, who has made 80 appearances since arriving from Djurgården in 2024, discussed the new contract and said he is looking forward to what’s ahead for a Spurs squad that spent big in the summer window.
“I think we're building something great here. It's an exciting time for the club and that's why I'm happy to extend my contract,” he said.
“I'm always trying to achieve as much as possible, to be the best version of myself both on and off the pitch and I know this is the right place to do that.
“Personally, my goal is to produce more for the team - performances, goals and assists - to help as much as I can. I'm getting better every day in training and I'm looking forward to what will be a really good season ahead.”
De Zerbi Praises Bergvall’s Mentality After New Spurs Contract
Head coach Roberto De Zerbi also commented on the decision to extend Bergvall’s stay, saying he believes the youngster will thrive as Tottenham continue building what he called an exciting project.

“Every day in training you can see Lucas' desire to learn, improve and push himself to the highest level,” De Zerbi said.
“Lucas is brave, he wants responsibility and has the personality to play in big moments. He also understands that development is a process and he has shown a fantastic attitude towards working on the areas of his game where he can become even better.
“I believe his best football is still ahead of him and we want to give Lucas the platform to reach his full potential.”
