Harrison and Skupski upset World No.1s to reach US Open men’s doubles final...

Christian Harrison and Neal Skupski have advanced to the 2026 US Open men’s doubles final. They will take on Germany’s Kevin Krawietz and Tim Pütz after beating world No.1 pair Harri Heliövaara and Henry Patten in straight sets.

Wimbledon champions and French Open finalists Heliovaara and Patten were making their first US Open semi-final appearance in New York. A draining two-hour 20-minute quarter-final earlier in the day left them short on recovery time against fifth seeds Harrison and Skupski, who had not dropped a set all tournament.

That looked to be the case early in the opening set when Harrison and Skupski broke in the third game. But Heliövaara and Patten survived two more break points in the fifth and hit back to make it 4-4, forcing the set into a tiebreak.

It was in the breaker where the match turned. Two service losses cost the Finnish-British pair, as the American-British team closed it out 7-4 to take the first set 7-6.

Losing the tiebreak appeared to take the fight out of Heliövaara and Patten. They gave up an early break in the second set to fall 4-1 behind, and although they saved two match points in the eighth game, Harrison and Skupski converted on their third opportunity to seal a 6-2 win in 1 hour and 23 minutes.

“It just wasn't our day,” Heliövaara said afterward. “Full credit to our opponents, they were excellent. At this level, someone’s always going to get the better of you on the day.”

Flushing Meadows is still the only major where the Finn and Brit haven’t reached a final. This year, Harrison and Skupski will meet German sixth seeds Kevin Krawietz and Tim Pütz for the title. All four have played in a US Open final previously, but none have lifted the trophy yet.
