Senegal Coach Cisse resigns following 0-0 draw with Morocco at WAFCON...
Senegal head coach Mama Moussa Cisse has resigned after the Lionesses crashed out of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations. Their tournament ended with a 0-0 draw against host nation Morocco in the final Group A match.
Senegal needed a win over Morocco to keep their quarter-final hopes alive, but the goalless stalemate wasn’t enough and their WAFCON campaign came to an end.
The 0-0 result pushed host nation Morocco to seven points and top spot. In the group’s other game, Algeria beat Kenya 2-0 to move into second and book a quarter-final place.
Senegal finished third on four points, with Kenya bottom on zero. Morocco created the better chances to win, but Senegal goalkeeper Adji Ndiaye was the difference-maker, saving two second-half penalties.
After the match, Cisse announced he was resigning from his position and sent his best wishes to the team going forward.

“It’s time to leave and let others come and break through this glass ceiling. Today (Monday), we have a good team, we’re in a good dynamic,” said Cisse as quoted by Wiw Sport.
“Perhaps another coach, with a different vision and experience, can lead this team towards the goals we’ve set for ourselves.
“I’ve been here for 10 years. It’s time to hand the reins over to someone else, to try new things. I’ve given everything I had, but apparently, it’s not enough.”
Cisse said Senegal fell short of their goals at WAFCON 2026 and that he holds himself accountable for how the team performed in Morocco.
“The objective was not achieved,” acknowledged Cisse. “On a personal level, I take responsibility. This third consecutive Women’s Africa Cup of Nations was supposed to be my last.”

Before the Morocco match, Cisse said he had no regrets about earlier results and that his only focus was getting a win against the hosts in Rabat.
“I’m not someone who dwells on regrets. I’m demanding of myself. I’m a very positive person, someone who always remains hopeful,” said Cisse.
“The only important match now is the one against Morocco. We have to give ourselves the means to get a good result. We can’t dwell on the first two matches.
“We’re facing a difficult game. We’ll have to raise our standards to hope for a good result.”
