Rockies left-hander Kyle Freeland threw the first complete game of his 10-year career on Sunday, leading Colorado to an 8-1 win over Kansas City and a series sweep.

The 33-year-old allowed just one run on five hits, striking out eight and walking two. Teammates and the home crowd gave the Denver native a big ovation for the milestone.

It was the first complete game by a Rockies pitcher since Chad Kuhl did it on June 27, 2022.

The complete game stands out in an otherwise rough season for the veteran. Through 20 starts, Freeland owns a 6.81 ERA with 138 hits and 23 walks allowed, plus 93 strikeouts in 108.1 innings.

Since his near-Cy Young 2022 campaign when he finished 4th in voting, Freeland hasn’t posted a season ERA under 4.30.

He’s carried a 5.00+ ERA in three of the past four years, and in 2025 he led MLB with 17 losses.

Freeland also has a $17 million player option for 2027 in his deal that kicks in if he reaches 170 innings this year.
