16-year-old Kristina Liutova reaches maiden WTA Tour final in Memphis...

Russian teen Kristina Liutova has made the final on her WTA Tour debut. She earned a shot at the Memphis title on Saturday with a 7-5, 6-1 win over Elvina Kalieva.

Currently ranked No.229, Liutova will become the youngest WTA finalist since Coco Gauff in Austria back in 2019.

The first WTA finalist born in the 2010s, Liutova described her run at the WTA 250 event as a “miracle journey” following her quarter-final victory over No.6 seed Caty McNally.

Liutova began with a win in her first WTA main draw. Top seed Ekaterina Alexandrova retired due to heat illness with Liutova ahead 7-6(2), 4-6, 5-4.

She then defeated Australia’s Maya Joint in round two, before beating McNally 6-3, 6-4 to reach the semis.

In Sunday’s final she’ll play Czech Republic’s Darja Vidmanova, ranked No.114, who advanced with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Mexico’s Renata Zarazua in the other semi-final.

The 23-year-old Vidmanova will also be contesting her first WTA final.
