Chelsea have officially announced the signing of veteran midfielder Jordan Henderson after the former Liverpool captain agreed to end his contract with Brentford.
The 36-year-old has signed a two-year deal running until the summer of 2028 - a move that signals a major change in the Blues’ transfer approach.
Chelsea have long prioritised signing young talent, but the club have now shifted gears to answer Xabi Alonso’s call for more experience. Alongside Brighton forward Danny Welbeck, they’ve brought in Jordan Henderson to add leadership to the squad.
“Given the size of the club, the manager, who I have great admiration for, and the quality of the players, this was a huge opportunity I couldn’t turn down,” Henderson said.
“I was also so impressed with how much the ownership want Chelsea to be successful and move in the right direction.
“For me, it's about giving everything every single day, both on and off the field, to help the players around me and the team as much as possible. I'm very excited to get going.”
The England midfielder has made 463 Premier League appearances. Most of those came with Liverpool, where he moved after coming through Sunderland’s academy as a teenager.

After stints in Saudi Arabia and with Ajax, Henderson returned to the Premier League with Brentford. He featured 34 times in all competitions last season and was also called up to England’s World Cup squad.
It’s not yet known when Henderson will make his Chelsea debut after he suffered a broken arm while away with England.
