Ipswich Avoid Unwanted History With Late Clarke Winner Vs Sunderland
Ipswich Vs Sunderland: Tractor Boys snatch late win in Premier League comeback. Clarke’s 90th-minute winner seals Ipswich win over Sunderland on PL return.
With under 10 minutes left, the game was crying out for someone to grab it and produce a moment of magic to win it...
Jack Clarke returned to punish Sunderland with a 90th-minute winner as Ipswich marked their Premier League comeback with a 2-1 victory. The goal gave the Tractor Boys a third straight league win over the Black Cats for the first time ever.
Sunderland, who reached Europe as a promoted side last season, began well and nearly led inside four minutes. Brian Brobbey found space in the box but Leif Davis produced a superb block to keep Ipswich level.
Ipswich responded well to that early scare and grew into the game. They took the lead just past the halfway point of the first half when Emersonn tapped in from close range on his debut, after an unselfish lay-off from Julio Enciso.
Ipswich didn’t lose any of the 25 league games they scored first in last season, but Sunderland pushed hard for a response here. Kjell Scherpen had to be sharp to keep out Noah Sadiki’s header from inside the box and prevent an immediate equaliser.
There was no stopping Angulo. The Ecuador winger bent a superb 25-yard free-kick past Scherpen in the 39th minute to make it 1-1 and score his first for Sunderland.
The second half started at breakneck speed. Debutant Daizen Maeda and Enciso both missed big chances to put Ipswich ahead. After that, the game got scrappy as both sides knew how crucial the next goal would be. As a result, the goalkeepers were barely tested until late on.
With under 10 minutes left, the game was crying out for someone to grab it and produce a moment of magic to win it.
Just when it looked like the game would fizzle out, Clarke struck. The substitute latched onto a Saša Lukić pass and calmly slotted past Robin Roefs in the 90th minute to win it for Ipswich and send Portman Road into raptures.

The win means Ipswich avoid becoming only the fourth team in English top-flight history to lose 10 home games in a row. For Sunderland, it was a missed chance to win three straight Premier League games for the first time since 2014.
