Vitor Pereira called his Nottingham Forest sacking a “complete surprise.” The Portuguese coach won 8 of 20 games, kept Forest in the top flight, and now Forest eye a fifth straight Premier League season.

'Complete surprise' says Pereira confirms Nottingham Forest sacking before club...

Vitor Pereira said he was dismissed “without any warning and completely out of the blue.” He confirmed on Wednesday that he was let go as Nottingham Forest head coach with immediate effect, before the club made an official announcement.

His contract included a June break clause, and Forest are understood to have told the Portuguese coach they planned to take the club in a new direction.

UK media reports say Oliver Glasner is in line for the City Ground job. He left Crystal Palace at the end of last season after managing Premier League rivals.

“Today marks the end of my journey as head coach of Nottingham Forest,” said Pereira in a statement.

“I want to say a sincere thank you to everyone connected with this incredible football club.

“Although this decision came as a complete surprise to me and without any warning, I fully respect the club's right to make the decisions it believes are best for its future.”

The 57-year-old added: “Naturally, I am disappointed and saddened. I truly believed in what we were building together, and I leave with a sense of pride in everything we achieved over the past months.

“Together, we enjoyed a memorable end to the season. We secured the club's Premier League status, reached the semi-finals of the Europa League, and created moments that will stay with me forever.

“Most importantly, I saw a group of players grow in confidence, belief and togetherness.”

Pereira thanked his coaching staff, the players, and supporters for backing him. He said he wants nothing but success for the club going forward.

“I leave Nottingham Forest with no bitterness or resentment - only respect, gratitude and wonderful memories.”

When asked by Britain’s Press Association, Forest said they had no comment.

Pereira also kept Wolves in the Premier League the year before. He won 8 of 20 games in charge at Forest, with the two-time European champions now headed for a fifth straight season in the top tier.

Former Palace manager Glasner drew interest from several major European clubs. He won the FA Cup with the south London team in 2024/25, then followed it up with the Europa Conference League a year later.
