Alexander Zverev took a major step toward the Wimbledon title by ending a long losing streak against Taylor Fritz. He beat the American 6-4, 6-4, 6-2 to reach the semi-finals and keep his hopes alive for back-to-back Grand Slam wins.

Zverev had lost his previous seven matches to Fritz, including their meeting at the All England Club last year. But the French Open champion flipped the script this time with a dominant, confident performance.

That result sets up a semi-final clash with British wildcard Arthur Fery, who upset Flavio Cobolli - the same player Zverev defeated in the French Open final in Paris.

The No. 2 seed jumped out early with a break, moved ahead 5-4, and pumped his fist in relief after holding off a late push from Fritz in the 10th game to take the first set on a scorching Court One.

Zverev ramped up the pressure in the second after Fritz called for a medical timeout for a nagging right knee issue in the third game. The 29-year-old German broke at a key moment and celebrated big, leaving his opponent with no answers.

The crowd let out a big cheer when word came that Briton Fery was up two sets to love on Centre Court. Zverev answered right away with a routine hold, pushing further ahead as Fritz’s chances started to slip away.

A sharp backhand winner gave Zverev the double break for 4-1 in the third, and he wrapped it up with ease from there. The win sends him into his first Wimbledon semi-final and the 12th Grand Slam semi-final of his career.
