KuPS have moved level on points with Veikkausliiga leaders Inter Turku after an explosive 7-goal win over Ilves at home. Inter, meanwhile, dropped points again and are now only top on goal difference.

KuPS Survive Ilves Scare to Go Level With Inter

KuPS made it back-to-back wins and stretched their unbeaten league run to eight games. The defending champions nearly let a 4-1 home lead slip against Ilves, which ended the visitors’ own two-match winning streak.

The hosts looked set for an easy night midway through the first half. Valentin Gasc put KuPS ahead, but Oliver Pettersson pulled Ilves level just 60 seconds later.

KuPS still had work to do, and they delivered before halftime. Bob Armah restored their lead, then Gustav Engvall and Petteri Pennanen struck late to make it 4-1 at the break.

Ilves gave themselves hope when Jardell Kanga converted a penalty nine minutes into the second half, then Joona Veteli cut the deficit to one just after the hour mark. The visitors controlled most of the second-half chances, but couldn’t find a late equalizer and stay eighth in the table.

Those two goals conceded after the break are why KuPS aren’t top yet. Their goal difference sits at +8, one behind Inter Turku’s +9.

Vikstrom Cancels Ylatupa as Jaro Halt Slide Against Gnistan

Gnistan kept their place in the top half with a draw at Jaro, but they’ll feel they missed a chance for three points. Saku Ylatupa put the Helsinki side ahead in the 14th minute, yet they couldn’t make it four wins in a row. Rudi Vikstrom equalized early in the second half to snap Jaro’s three-match losing run.
