World Cup 2026: Ghana shut out England again, remain one of few teams yet to concede at World Cup.

England Unable to break down Ghana as both sides edge closer to knockouts...

England and Ghana both moved closer to the World Cup knockout rounds after a tight 0-0 draw in Boston, but Group L is still wide open ahead of the other matchday two game tonight.

Boston’s cooler temperatures compared to back home in England helped the Three Lions settle into a rhythm early, with Ghana barely touching the ball. Carlos Queiroz’s team were content to sit deep and try for the kind of upset that got them past Panama in their opener, and they frustrated England even as Declan Rice came close, firing just over from distance.

The Arsenal midfielder also sent a header over the bar later in the half, but clear chances were scarce for the Three Lions. Ghana started to assert themselves just before halftime, yet still failed to register a single shot. That made it nine straight matches without a first-half goal for the Black Stars. The second half didn’t deliver much goalmouth action either, with Anthony Gordon finally forcing the game’s first shot on target - a tame effort straight at Benjamin Asare.

Ghana began to find some success with direct play after that, and England’s subs added a spark of creativity. Still, it wasn’t until the last 10 minutes that real chances opened up.

Prince Kwabena Adu broke through with Antoine Semenyo, but Jordan Pickford raced out to snuff out the threat. The clearest chance of the game came next though. Asare had just tipped Bukayo Saka’s shot wide when the winger’s cross was headed onto the bar by Nico O’Reilly, then Harry Kane blasted the rebound over.

After holding the Three Lions to a goalless draw, Ghana are still one of the few teams yet to concede at this World Cup. England, though, looked nothing like the side that cut Croatia apart 4-2 on matchday one.

Four points usually gets you through in most groups, but there are still no guarantees. That could change depending on tonight’s later Group L match between Panama and Croatia.
