Sweden’s World Championship Debut and First Gold

Sweden first entered the World Ice Hockey Championship in 1931 and claimed their maiden title in 1953, with that tournament also held in Switzerland.

Tre Kronor have won 11 gold medals, along with 19 silvers and 19 bronzes. That haul places them fourth on the all-time medal table, trailing only Canada, the Soviet Union/Russia, and Czechoslovakia/the Czech Republic.

Sweden’s last gold came in 2018 in Denmark, where they defended the title they won the year before in Germany and France.

The bronze in 2024 ended a spell without a podium finish for Sweden. On home ice in 2025, they reached the semi-finals but lost to eventual champions the United States, then beat co-hosts Denmark to take third place.
