After a poor Game 5, Victor Wembanyama returned with 28 points to lead San Antonio past Oklahoma City 118-91. The Spurs tied the Western Conference finals 3-3 and Game 7 is Saturday...
Victor Wembanyama put up 28 points as the San Antonio Spurs pushed the NBA Western Conference finals to a Game 7. They led from start to finish in a commanding 118-91 win over Oklahoma City on Thursday.
The Spurs came out aggressive in the do-or-die matchup against the defending champion Thunder. A loud home crowd pushed them forward as they kept their NBA Finals hopes alive, with the in-form New York Knicks waiting next.
Dylan Harper chipped in 18 points off the bench. San Antonio bounced back from Tuesday’s letdown loss to level the best-of-seven series at 3-3.
Game 7 will be played in Oklahoma City on Saturday.
“We ain't done nothing yet,” said Wembanyama, who added 10 rebounds and three blocks.
“When your back's against the wall, it feels like it's the best opportunity,” he added.
“When your back's against the wall, it feels like it's the best opportunity,” he added.
After a rare off night in Game 5, Wembanyama showed up with fierce energy for his first ever playoff elimination game.
The 7-foot-4 French star, this season’s NBA Defensive Player of the Year, started hot. He followed Julian Champagnie’s quick three with two deep shots of his own plus a block, and San Antonio jumped out to a 9-2 lead right away.
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, the reigning two-time MVP who scored 32 points last game, looked out of rhythm.
The Thunder star was hounded by San Antonio’s defense and missed several mid-range shots.
San Antonio knocked down eight threes in the first quarter, the most they’ve hit in any postseason quarter this year.
Wembanyama and the Spurs lost a bit of energy and shooting touch in the second quarter. Still, the Thunder only trailed by seven at halftime.
San Antonio then blew the game open with a stunning 20-0 run in the third quarter.
Oklahoma City’s offense fell apart during that stretch. They missed 13 straight field goals, went more than seven minutes without scoring, and managed just 13 points for the whole third quarter.
With six minutes left and San Antonio up by 28, both teams pulled their starters to save them for Game 7. The home crowd started chanting “Ole.”

Spurs Coach Demands More as Game 7 Looms
“Tonight was do or die, and a lot of fans are going to be happy,” said Spurs coach Mitch Johnson.
He said his team will be “ready to go into a hostile environment” against the defending champions, and expects Oklahoma City to bring “their best punch” in game seven.
“We're gonna go with our eyes wide open and expecting nothing less,” he promised.
After missing the chance to become the first team to reach back-to-back NBA Finals since the Golden State Warriors in 2019, the Thunder must take a new shot at home this weekend.
“When you lose the way we did tonight, there's a lot more we could have done, that's what we'll look at,” said Thunder coach Mark Daigneault.
“We'll go out there and try to do our best to execute those things in game seven to give ourselves the best chance to win.”
