Barcelona have officially signed Newcastle and England winger Anthony Gordon. The deal is worth a reported 80 million euros, about £69m, and runs for five years.
Gordon has impressed since moving to Newcastle from Everton in 2023. He stood out in Europe last season with 10 goals and two assists in the UEFA Champions League.
His Premier League numbers weren’t as strong, with the 25-year-old scoring only six goals in 2025/26. But his time at St James’ Park was still a success overall, finishing with 39 goals and 28 assists in 152 games.
The winger played a central role as the Saudi-backed Magpies grew rapidly. He starred as Newcastle qualified for the Champions League twice and won the EFL Cup, ending the club’s 50-plus year wait for a trophy.
Gordon is set to play for England at this summer’s World Cup. He’ll be glad to have his future sorted before the tournament kicks off.
Marcus Rashford spent last season on loan at Barcelona alongside his England teammate. But his move turning permanent now looks uncertain.
Gordon caught everyone off guard by speaking Spanish at his unveiling. It showed this transfer had been planned for a long time.
“I was excited to play for Barca (since) I was three years of age,” Anthony said, answering parts of the press conference in fluent Spanish and surprising reporters.
“I wanted to speak Spanish because, as a kid, I believed I would play football for Barca, believe it or not. I have a physio in Newcastle, and we spoke every day, and I told him 'One day I'll play for Barca, so I want to learn Spanish.'”

At the start of the month, Newcastle boss Eddie Howe said Eddie Howe had hinted that Eddie Howe might leave, saying Eddie Howe could be on his way out.
In the end, Barcelona moved quickly to land Gordon. The winger is also in England’s squad for the World Cup.
“To play with Lamine (Yamal) and the rest of the players is very exciting for me,” Gordon said. “The more players with quality you have around you, the better you're going to be. These players are at the very top level for a reason, they're the best players in the world.
“They have so much quality, and I'd seen this when we played them at St James's Park. We could not switch the ball.”
