UEL: Aston Villa Crush Nottingham Forest to Reach Europa League Final

Aston Villa Vs Nottingham Forest
Watkins and McGinn inspire Villa’s stunning comeback against Forest

Villa maintained their flawless home record in Europe and ended a three-game losing streak with the emphatic win.

Unai Emery’s side will now compete for the Europa League trophy in their second-ever European final...

The atmosphere in the stadium was electric before kick-off as both teams dreamed of a memorable night, and that intensity carried straight onto the pitch in a fast-paced start.

Despite the frantic pace, there were flashes of quality as Omari Hutchinson drifted past Lucas Digne and curled an effort just wide, while Stefan Ortega was forced to tip Pau Torres’ header over the bar.

Emiliano Buendia later earned a free-kick in a promising position but watched his strike deflect off the Nottingham Forest wall, and Youri Tielemans then headed wide from the resulting corner.

Although Villa were starting to assert themselves, the commitment from both sides was clear when Ollie Watkins and Morato collided head-to-head.

Unfazed by the earlier collision, Watkins put Villa ahead on the night and drew the tie level just five minutes after play restarted, laying the ball off to Emiliano Buendía so the Argentine could create space and slip it back to the striker, who had slipped unmarked into the six-yard box for an easy finish.

Villa and their bandaged striker showed no signs of letting up before half-time, with Watkins forcing a save after unleashing a powerful strike.

Vitor Pereira introduced club captain Ryan Yates at the start of the second half, and he immediately looked to break up Villa’s rhythm.

Emery’s side earned a penalty in the 56th minute when Nikola Milenkovic pulled Pau Torres’ shirt, and Emiliano Buendía sent it past Stefan Ortega’s outstretched hand with a composed spot-kick to give Villa the lead in the tie for the first time.

Watkins found the net again soon after but was ruled offside, and John McGinn then directed an effort straight at Ortega as Villa kept dominating.

The Villa captain made no mistake moments later though, finishing with precision into the far corner after Watkins played him in at the edge of the box to spark wild celebrations.

Moments later, McGinn was played through by Morgan Rogers and aimed for the opposite corner, with the result identical as he wrapped up a dominant night for Villa. The win ended a three-match losing streak and booked Aston Villa’s place in only their second European final, where they will face Freiburg 44 years after their first.

The result also brought an end to Nottingham Forest’s 10-game unbeaten run and eliminated them from the Europa League.
