Minnesota held off a Spurs surge led by Fox, Harper, and Castle to win Game 4. The series shifts back to San Antonio for a pivotal Game 5 on Tuesday...

Minnesota tied its Western Conference semifinal with San Antonio at 2-2, pulling away down the stretch for a 114-109 win over a Spurs team that was without Victor Wembanyama for most of the night.

The French star was thrown out early in the second quarter after elbowing Naz Reid in the jaw.

Anthony Edwards took over late, scoring 16 of his 36 points in a wild fourth quarter that saw the lead change hands five times.

Rudy Gobert gave the Timberwolves the lead for good with a three-point play to make it 103-101 with 3:02 left. Ayo Dosunmu then added another three-point play to extend the advantage to 110-103 as Minnesota closed it out. Neither side led by more than nine points all game.

Reigning Defensive Player of the Year Victor Wembanyama was ejected from a game for the first time in his NBA career early in the second quarter.

After grabbing an offensive rebound, he was hounded by Naz Reid and Jaden McDaniels, then turned back toward Reid and struck him with his elbow, knocking the Timberwolves forward to the floor.

Despite the loss of Wembanyama, San Antonio stayed in the fight behind 24 points each from De’Aaron Fox and Dylan Harper, plus 20 from Stephon Castle. The Spurs led 94-86 with 8:51 remaining.

“When Wemby got thrown out of the game, we came out thinking it was going to be easy,” Edwards said.

“But those guys are really good even without Wemby. So we just had to play hard, and I had to just take it upon myself to try to get us a win.”

Naz Reid posted 15 points and nine rebounds for Minnesota, while Jaden McDaniels chipped in 14 points. With the win, the Timberwolves ensured the series will head back to Minneapolis for Game 6 after San Antonio hosts Game 5 on Tuesday.
