Spurs vs Leeds: Survival, Stats and Goals on the Line

Spurs vs Leeds
Tottenham host Leeds in must-win Premier League survival clash

Tottenham dominate the recent head-to-head, but Leeds arrive in strong form. We break down the stats, goalscorers, and tactical trends ahead of a pivotal Premier League game.

Tottenham vs Leeds United, team news Key stats ahead of Tottenham’s crucial Premier League match against Leeds United and survival stakes....

Following West Ham’s late defeat to Arsenal at the London Stadium, Tottenham Hotspur know a win over Leeds United on Monday night would put them in a strong position to secure Premier League survival. Arsenal are Spurs’ North London rivals.

Spurs sit one point above West Ham. If Tottenham take all three points on Monday, West Ham would need to win their last two games against Newcastle and Leeds, while Spurs lose to both Chelsea and Everton, for the Hammers to stay up.

Tottenham’s Dominant Record vs Leeds

Spurs have the edge in recent meetings, winning 8 of the last 9 games against Leeds. That includes 5 consecutive victories.

After going unbeaten in 4 away trips to Spurs between 1997 and 2001 with 3 wins and a draw, Leeds have lost on each of their last 6 visits to N17.

Tottenham are aiming for 3 wins in a row for the first time since February 2025. Back-to-back victories over Wolves and Aston Villa have given Roberto De Zerbi’s side renewed hope of avoiding relegation.

Only 6 teams have earned more points than Leeds since the start of December. In that span, just Man City, Man United, and Bournemouth have lost fewer than Leeds’ 4 defeats.

Spurs’ Home Struggles Hit Record Lows

No club has picked up fewer points at home than Tottenham this season. Ten home defeats in back-to-back campaigns makes for grim reading.

One more loss at home against Leeds or Everton would see Spurs match their all-time worst of 11 home defeats in a single season, set back in 1991/92.

The Yorkshire side will fancy their chances after going unbeaten in their last 6 league matches. Three wins and three draws in that run give them solid confidence.

They’ve scored 3+ goals in 8 games this season, the most by any newly promoted team since Leeds themselves hit 10 under Marcelo Bielsa in 2020/21.

A New-Look Spurs Under De Zerbi

Tottenham look like a different side just four games into Roberto De Zerbi’s reign. The team has been visibly transformed in that short span.

In that period, Spurs have won possession in the final third 5.3 times per game. That’s a higher rate than what Thomas Frank managed with 3.7, and Igor Tudor with 3.8, during their time in charge.

With the season falling flat for most of the squad, Richarlison’s goals have been crucial. The Brazilian is scoring at a rate of one every 109 Premier League minutes.

Among players with over 3,000 minutes this season, only Erling Haaland, Mo Salah, and Alexander Isak have a better goals-per-minute ratio than Richarlison. He also leads Spurs for total shots with 52, and shots on target with 23.

Calvert-Lewin Leads Leeds’ Attack

Dominic Calvert-Lewin has been Leeds’ main man when they’ve needed a crucial goal, and he’s delivered. His 12 goals, 69 shots, and 31 shots on target all lead the team.

Noah Okafor has also been in hot form. Among players with 200+ minutes since early February, his 6 goals in 408 minutes - one every 68 minutes - is the best rate on either side. He’ll miss this game through injury.

Goals have been a near certainty in this matchup, with at least three scored in each of the last six league meetings. That run includes Tottenham’s 4-3 win in North London in 2022.

Injury News Gives Spurs Slight Relief

The injury situation is looking a little brighter for Tottenham, but they’re still without eight players: Xavi Simons, Wilson Odobert, Mo Kudus, Dejan Kulusevski, Cristian Romero, Ben Davies, and Guglielmo Vicario.

Leeds will be without Ilia Gruev, Gabriel Gudmundsson, and Noah Okafor. Pascal Struijk is also a doubt and will be assessed late to see if he can feature.

Tottenham have conceded the most goals in the 15 minutes before half-time, with 19 let in during that period. Leeds, meanwhile, have shipped 15 goals in the final 15 minutes of games.

The opening goal may be decisive, as both sides have identical records when conceding first: 9 wins, 3 draws, and 3 losses.

Let the fun and games begin…
