After Liverpool’s loss to Aston Villa, Salah posted a scathing message liked by teammates past and present. With Brentford still to play, Champions League hopes hang in the balance....
Trent Alexander-Arnold was one of more than 10 current and former Liverpool players to like Mohamed Salah’s Instagram post as scrutiny on Arne Slot intensifies.
Salah’s message after Liverpool’s heavy loss to Aston Villa spread quickly online, with the forward criticizing the club ahead of his expected exit this summer.
He singled out Slot’s tactics, arguing they contributed to Liverpool losing their grip on the Premier League title and falling short in the race for Champions League qualification.
“Us crumbling to yet another defeat this season was very painful and not what our fans deserve,” he said.
“I want to see Liverpool go back to being the heavy metal attacking team that opponents fear and back to being a team that wins trophies. That is the football I know how to play, and that is the identity that needs to be recovered and kept for good.”
The post has surpassed one million likes. Dominik Szoboszlai, Ryan Gravenberch, Ibrahima Konate, Andy Robertson, and Wataru Endo were among the players who liked it.
Hugo Ekitike, Florian Wirtz, Jeremie Frimpong, Giovanni Leoni, and Milos Kerkez also liked the post, along with Scouser Curtis Jones. The widespread reaction has fueled speculation that Slot has lost support inside the dressing room.
Other players including Stefan Bajcetic, Calvin Ramsay, and Rhys Williams also liked the post. The response has raised further questions about the club’s direction under the Dutch manager.

Former Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold liked the post even after his move to Real Madrid and a fraught exit from Anfield. His reaction suggests he backs Salah’s message.
Hugo Ekitike replied with a handshake emoji, while Curtis Jones posted a clapping emoji under the post.
Liverpool may now need to beat Brentford on the final day to secure Champions League qualification. That outcome falls well short of what was expected at the start of the season.
