Guardiola reveals he still has “incredible energy” to continue at Man City

Guardiola said he’s still driven to manage at the top level, with speculation growing over his next move ahead of the summer.

The City boss has overseen the club’s most successful era since arriving in 2016, with Bernardo Silva and John Stones already confirmed as departures...

Pep Guardiola says he still has the “incredible energy” to carry on as Manchester City manager, even as speculation grows that he could exit when the season ends.

His deal at City runs until June 2027, and he has spoken before about wanting to manage a national team at a major tournament, with Italy among the sides linked to him.

Reports suggest City are preparing for a change in the dugout this summer, with Enzo Maresca, formerly of Chelsea, tipped to step in right away if Guardiola leaves.

Bernardo Silva and John Stones have both confirmed they are leaving City in recent weeks, and Guardiola hinted he is also undecided on whether to stay or go next.

“I wouldn’t be 10 years, even with good titles, if I didn’t have an incredible environment,” Guardiola told The Guardian.

“Now I feel more, I don’t know, happy, not happy, but I don’t know, still have incredible energy, still I’m so good, coming here to work on my day off.”

On City’s consistency: “I love when Gundo (Ilkay Gundogan) came back from Barcelona and said, ‘Man City is top, top’. You know, when that happens, we are in a good way. That’s why we are consistently in the Champions League for the last 12, 13, 14 years.

“That’s why we are always fighting for the titles, because they are consistent around the tactics, the systems, the players, the managers. It’s like a bubble that makes people feel good.”

Guardiola arrived at the Etihad in July 2016 and has now spent a decade in charge, overseeing the most successful period in Manchester City’s history.

Regarded by many as one of the greatest managers ever, his departure would leave a gap in the Premier League that would be felt, given his record of sustained success.
