Sevilla strengthened their LaLiga survival bid with a 3-2 comeback win at Villarreal, making it three victories in a row and ending the hosts’ six-match winning streak at Estadio de la Ceramica under Marcelino.

Starting the night just one point above the relegation zone, Sevilla would have hoped a Villarreal side already focused on the Champions League might ease off. That didn’t happen, as Georges Mikautadze set up Gerard Moreno in the 13th minute. Moreno took a touch to shake off two defenders and slotted the ball into the bottom corner to put Villarreal ahead.

Sevilla’s situation worsened in the 20th minute when Nicolas Pepe played Nicolas Pepe threaded the ball to Alberto Moleiro on the byline. Moleiro drew goalkeeper Odysseas Vlachodimos out before chipping it to the back post, where Georges Mikautadze tapped in to make it 2-0.

Villarreal controlled enough possession to put the game beyond reach before half-time, but those two goals were their only shots. Sevilla pulled one back in the 36th minute when Lucien Agoume’s diagonal ball found Oso in stride. He glided past challenges and scored only his second of the season with a composed finish.

The goal lifted Los Nervionenses, and even after Neal Maupay’s effort was blocked, they kept pressing. Their persistence paid off in stoppage time as Rubén Vargas laid off César Azpilicueta’s pass for Kike Salas to smash home a clean half-volley and level the score.

After completing the comeback, Luis García’s side looked the more likely to score the decisive fifth goal early in the second half. It took until just after the hour mark for them to test Arnau Tenas, who dealt comfortably with Neal Maupay’s curling effort.

Their momentum nearly unraveled soon after when Alberto Moleiro dispossessed Sevilla near the edge of the box, but Odysseas Vlachodimos reacted quickly to stop his low shot through traffic.

With 18 minutes left, the home crowd was stunned as Sevilla completed the turnaround. Alexis Sanchez won possession moments after coming on, and Juanlu Sanchez combined with Djibril Sow to play the ball across the area to Akor Adams, who fired past Tenas at the near post.

The result ended Sevilla’s run of four straight away defeats, while Villarreal dropped points at home to a team outside the top five for the first time all season.
