Sevilla kept their LaLiga survival hopes alive with a dramatic late comeback, edging Espanyol 2-1 at the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan. It was just the second time in 20 league games this season that they’ve won after conceding first.
A 10-minute delay before kickoff, caused by a VAR issue, only heightened the tense atmosphere around the stadium. When play got underway, the first real chance fell to Espanyol’s Edu Exposito in the 25th minute. He found space in the box and forced Odysseas Vlachodimos into a diving save to his left.
Just like in Monday’s win over Real Sociedad, Alexis Sanchez came off the bench at halftime looking like Sevilla’s game-changer. His impact felt immediate after the restart.
A series of passes and blocked shots in the Espanyol box led to Jose Angel Carmona’s effort turning into a pass for Ruben Vargas. Vargas tried to shoot but saw his attempt deflected, leaving Sanchez free to tap in. The celebrations were cut short though, as the Chilean was flagged offside and the home crowd fell silent.

For a side fighting relegation, that kind of moment usually ends badly, and Sevilla got hit with a cruel blow in the 56th minute.
Tyrhys Dolan had been growing into the game early in the second half, and he created his own opener. Roberto Fernández cut a ball back from the right flank just before it went out, and Andres Castrin misjudged the flight of the return pass. Dolan pounced, brought it down, and drilled it low into the bottom-left corner.
Sevilla’s bench responded with a triple substitution shortly after Espanyol went ahead. Castrín nearly made amends right away, heading over from a deep cross by Sánchez. He did level it in the 82nd minute, bursting down the right from seemingly nowhere, cutting into the box, and sliding a low finish under Marko Dmitrovic - a shot the goalkeeper should have kept out.
That goal gave Sevilla the lift they needed, and they finished the comeback as seven minutes of stoppage time began. Akor Adams took advantage of a tiring Espanyol backline, unleashing a fierce curling strike from distance into the bottom-right corner.
Espanyol had no answer. Sevilla now head into three tough final games sitting 12th, three points above the drop zone. For Espanyol, the late collapse leaves them potentially starting next weekend in 17th, just two points clear of relegation in a LaLiga survival battle that shows no sign of easing up.
