Kylian Mbappe was booed on his return from injury as Madrid bounced back from defeat to Barcelona with a win over Oviedo.

Gonzalo Garcia opened the scoring before Bellingham sealed it, giving Madrid a fourth clean-sheet win in five meetings with Oviedo...

Real Madrid bounced back with a 2-0 home victory against relegated Real Oviedo in LaLiga. It was their fourth win without conceding in the last five meetings between the sides, with one draw.

With Madrid locked into second and Real Oviedo confirmed for 20th, there was little at stake beyond pride.

With reports that Jose Mourinho is in line for a second stint as manager, a few Madrid players looked keen to make an impression. The hosts nearly opened the scoring early when Gonzalo Garcia raced to the byline and cut back for Franco Mastantuono, but Aaron Escandell reacted well to deny the close-range strike.

The game stayed flat for long stretches. Trent Alexander-Arnold tried to change that around the midway point of the half, curling a 25-yard effort that fizzed just wide.

Brahim Diaz then lifted one over the bar, and Vinicius Junior couldn’t get a clean connection on Alexander-Arnold’s cross as Madrid started to build pressure.

Oviedo nearly made them pay seven minutes before the break. A neat move left Nacho Vidal with a six-yard chance, but he blasted it over.

Oviedo were made to pay for that miss a minute before half-time. Díaz pressed high to win the ball deep in their half and squared it to García, who slotted home from just inside the area for his fifth LaLiga goal of the season.

Madrid’s last four home league games had all been livelier after the break, and the Bernabéu crowd were hoping for a repeat.

Instead, they rose 10 minutes into the second half to applaud Oviedo’s veteran midfielder Santi Cazorla, a two-time European Championship winner, as he came on.

Cazorla’s side almost drew level soon after when Alberto Reina scuffed a volley at the back post. At the other end, Escandell spread himself well to stop Álvaro Carreras.

Vidal then squandered another big chance, racing through and side-footing just wide.

With 21 minutes to go, Kylian Mbappe returned from injury off the bench. His appearance and every touch were met with whistles from the Madrid fans.

Mbappe looked eager to get on the scoresheet, but it was fellow substitute Jude Bellingham who wrapped up the win 11 minutes from time. He danced past defenders on the edge of the box and fired in his seventh goal of the season in all competitions.

Thibaut Courtois kept his clean sheet intact with a diving stop to tip Haissem Hassan’s curling strike away. The result helped Madrid respond to Sunday’s 2-0 loss to Barcelona and extended their unbeaten run at the Bernabéu to five games with four wins and a draw.
