Kaizer Chiefs secure third spot and CAF Confederation Cup qualification with win over Sekhukhune...
Tashreeq Morris and Mfundo Vilakazi netted late on as Kaizer Chiefs beat Sekhukhune United 2-0 at Peter Mokaba Stadium on Sunday, sealing third place in the Betway Premiership and a place in next season’s CAF Confederation Cup.
The result puts Chiefs on 51 points from 28 matches, seven clear of fourth-placed AmaZulu with two games remaining. That gap means third place is now guaranteed.
Chiefs still face a trip to Usuthu next Saturday in a fixture that once looked like it could decide the race for third, followed by a final-day home game against relegation-threatened Chippa United.
Morris opened the scoring with his first league goal for Chiefs since the 2-2 draw with AmaZulu in February 2025, having featured sparingly this season.
That was Morris’s first league appearance of the season, with his only other outing coming in the Carling Knockout.
He tapped in at the back post in the 86th minute after Glody Lilepo delivered a precise low cross from the right.
Vilakazi sealed the win and continental qualification by converting a penalty for the second goal.
It wasn’t their sharpest performance, but the Soweto side got the job done and earned a deserved victory.
They were missing suspended midfielder Siphesihle Ndlovu, along with injured duo Wandile Duba and Mdu Shabalala, both of whom had been in good form lately.

Gaston Sirino started the match but struggled to make an impact overall.
He dragged an effort just wide from the left side of the area, and later tested Sekhukhune keeper Toaster Nsabata with a stinging 35-yard strike.
Sirino had another chance when the ball fell to him in the box, but his tame shot went straight at the goalkeeper.

Glody Lilepo also forced Nsabata into a good save with a powerful 20-yard shot that nearly crept in at the near post, before the two late goals put the game beyond doubt.
