From Lower Leagues to Bundesliga: Elversberg’s Remarkable Rise Continues
Elversberg become smallest town ever in Bundesliga

Goals from Conte and a Mokwa brace secured Elversberg’s historic promotion, sparking celebrations at the Waldstadion.

After three promotions in five years, Elversberg will play Bundesliga football for the first time next season...

Elversberg will play in the Bundesliga for the first time in their history next season. They clinched promotion with a 3-0 home win over Preussen Münster on Sunday, sparking wild celebrations at the Waldstadion an der Kaiserlinde. The stadium holds almost the entire town’s population.

Bambase Conte opened the scoring early, and David Mokwa added two more to seal the win. That result secured second place ahead of Paderborn on goal difference, and fans poured onto the pitch to celebrate.

Paderborn will now face VfL Wolfsburg in a two-legged promotion and relegation playoff.

Last season, Elversberg missed out on promotion in a playoff against Heidenheim in just their second year in the second tier. This time they made it, becoming the smallest town ever to have a team in Germany’s top flight.

Spiesen-Elversberg has a population of around 13,000, and the club’s ground holds 10,000. Elversberg have climbed fast too, earning three promotions in the last five seasons on their way up from the lower leagues.

Founded in 1907, the club was mocked by a German train company last season.

Deutsche Bahn posted a photo of a single-carriage train and said it was the only special service needed for the playoff against Heidenheim. Elversberg have now had the last laugh.

Heidenheim will swap places with Elversberg next season after being relegated from the Bundesliga.
