The Eredivisie season is drawing to a close, and Sunday’s nine-match round delivered plenty of drama. NAC Breda’s relegation was confirmed, while Telstar and Twente both picked up vital victories that shifted the race for third place.

Telstar Thrash Heracles 3-0 to Open Up Relegation Gap

Telstar delivered a crucial 3-0 win over Heracles Almelo on Sunday, moving two points clear of 16th-placed FC Volendam ahead of their head-to-head clash next week.

Sem van Duijn had a golden opportunity to open the scoring just before half-time, but a heavy first touch squandered Telstar’s best chance of the half.

After a delayed start, Guus Offerhaus gave Telstar the lead by reacting fastest to a corner rebound and tapping in for 1-0, putting his side in control of the survival battle.

Telstar doubled their advantage soon after when Tyrese Noslin tapped in Patrick Brouwer’s low cross at the far post. Jeff Hardeveld then headed home Noslin’s delivery to make it 3-0 and put the result beyond doubt.

NAC Breda’s Relegation Confirmed as Heerenveen Clash Abandoned

NAC Breda’s drop to the Keuken Kampioen Divisie was sealed by results elsewhere, and their match against sc Heerenveen was halted after crowd trouble at home.

Captain Boy Kemper put the hosts ahead in the 35th minute with a spectacular volley, striking a dropping ball straight into the top corner past Bernt Klaverboer.

Fan Misconduct Forces Permanent Abandonment

The game was first paused when NAC fans threw a flare onto the pitch, prompting referee Sander van der Eijk to stop play. Kemper made it 2-0 from the penalty spot after the restart, but further fireworks from the stands caused a second stoppage, leading to the match being abandoned for good.

Fortuna Sittard Beat Zwolle to Seal Safety for Both Sides

Fortuna Sittard’s 3-2 win over PEC Zwolle on Sunday, combined with results elsewhere, ensured both clubs will remain in the Eredivisie next season.

Lance Duijvestijn combined slickly with Kaj Sierhuis to carve through the PEC defense in the 21st minute, before firing Fortuna into the lead.

Yassine Oukili made it 2-0 just minutes after the restart, reacting quickest in a crowded box to slot home after a free-kick wasn’t cleared.

Kaj Sierhuis sealed the points with a spectacular volley, striking the ball mid-pirouette into the bottom corner past Tom de Graaff.

Gabriel Reiziger chipped in a late consolation for PEC, and Zico Buurmeester added a second in stoppage time, but it wasn’t enough to deny Fortuna a 3-2 win and survival for both teams.

Excelsior Hold On for Safety with 1-1 Draw Against Volendam

Excelsior Rotterdam confirmed their Eredivisie status for next season after a 1-1 draw with fellow strugglers FC Volendam on Sunday.

FC Volendam took less than two minutes to open the scoring, as Benjamin Pauwels burst down the left and slotted past Stijn van Gassel into the far corner.

Excelsior clawed their way back before the break through a scrappy goal. Gibson Yah was unfortunate as a corner deflected off him and into Roy Steur’s net, making it 1-1 in a key relegation clash.

That Yah own goal proved decisive. With 35 points on the board, Excelsior ensured they’ll finish clear of the bottom three and retain their place in the Eredivisie for another year.
