Eddie Howe Gets Boost After Talks With Al-Rumayyan as Newcastle Beat Brighton
Howe relieved as Newcastle down Brighton at St James’ Park

Howe met chairman Al-Rumayyan earlier in the week to discuss plans. Newcastle finish with games against Forest, Fulham, and West Ham.

The win ended a five-match losing run for Eddie Howe’s side...

Eddie Howe admitted the win was a relief for Newcastle, coming in a week where he sat down with chairman Yasir Al-Rumayyan to talk about the club’s direction. The 3-1 victory over Brighton at St James’ Park gave them a much-needed boost.

The result snapped a five-game losing run across all competitions and eased the pressure on Howe, while also putting Newcastle back in the mix for European qualification next season.

William Osula opened the scoring, Dan Burn netted against his old club, and Harvey Barnes added a third to beat a Brighton side that had won six and drawn one of their previous eight league matches.

Newcastle had moments of fortune, with Nick Pope looking shaky in goal and Brighton wasting chances, including Yankuba Minteh blazing over from close range when it was 2-1.

The win moves Newcastle up to 13th on 45 points from 35 matches, leaving them five points adrift of seventh-placed Brighton.

Bruno Guimarães said the focus is upward: “We’re looking up, not down. European football is still possible if we win our last three games.”

Newcastle finish the season with away trips to Nottingham Forest and Fulham, and a home fixture against West Ham United.
