Co-hosts Canada announced their 26-man World Cup squad two weeks before kickoff. Head coach Jesse Marsch confirmed the team led by captain Alphonso Davies.

Canada land in Group B and open against Bosnia and Herzegovina on June 12. They then face Qatar on June 18 and Switzerland on June 24. The opener is set for Toronto, while the next two matches will be played in Vancouver.

Injuries are a concern for the squad. Davies is still recovering from a hamstring issue and is unlikely to play in Canada’s first World Cup game.

Marsch named a 32-man preliminary squad earlier this week. That group will play friendlies against Uzbekistan on June 1 and the Republic of Ireland on June 5.

Half the squad has World Cup experience. 13 players from Canada’s 2022 team made the cut for 2026.

The starting goalkeeper is still undecided. Dayne St. Clair and Maxime Crepeau are battling for the number one shirt, and Marsch has not named his choice yet.

Alistair Johnston, Ritchie Laryea, and Niko Sigur join Davies at full-back. Sporting Kansas City defender Zorhan Bassong did not make the final 26.

Marsch went with five centre-backs. Derek Cornelius and Moise Bombito are expected to start for Canada even though both missed chunks of the club season. MLS duo Jamie Knight-Lebel and Ralph Priso missed out on selection.

Stephen Eustaquio captains the midfield group as vice-captain. Toronto FC captain Jonathan Osorio also made the squad. Eustaquio is at LAFC on loan from Porto and should line up next to Ismael Kone in the middle.

Jacob Shaffelburg was a doubt but makes the squad after returning from injury. He is one of five wingers picked alongside Tajon Buchanan, Marcelo Flores, Liam Millar, and Ali Ahmed. Millar recently won promotion to the Premier League with Hull City. Austin FC’s Jayden Nelson did not make the cut.

Jonathan David leads the striker group as the main threat. Cyle Larin, Tani Oluwaseyi, and Promise David complete the forward line. Promise missed most of the second half of the season in Belgium after surgery.

Preston North End forward Daniel Jebbison was expected to get a spot, but he and Jacen Russell-Rowe were left out in the final squad.

Canada are still chasing their first ever World Cup win. They lost all three group games in 1986 and again in 2022.
