UEFA’s technical group selected FC Barcelona’s Alexia Putellas as the best player of this season’s Women’s Champions League. The award came less than 24 hours after she helped Barcelona beat OL Lyonnes 4-0 to win a fourth European title for both herself and the club.

Putellas played in her sixth consecutive final for the Catalan side. At 32, she anchored a Barcelona team that scored four goals in the second half to defeat Lyon, the competition’s most successful club with eight titles.

“The midfielder's 14-goal contributions were more than any other player; she scored seven times and assisted seven goals during Barcelona's successful campaign, which culminated in a 4-0 win against Lyon in ‌the final,” the technical group said in its motivation statement.

Putellas was also one of five Barcelona players selected for the Team of the Season. Lyon midfielder Lily Yohannes, 18, was named “revelation of the season” by the technical group. Her performances in Europe helped Lyon reach their 12th Champions League final.
