Perth Wildcats captain Jesse Wagstaff has re-signed with the club he first played for in 2009/10.

Wagstaff turns 40 on April 30. He can pass Mark Bradtke, Glen Saville and Leroy Loggins this season to move into third on the NBL’s all-time games played list.

The 39-year-old played 35 games for Perth last season, lifting his career total to 540 NBL matches. Despite averaging just nine minutes per game, he remains invaluable to the club on and off the court.

The 2010 Rookie of the Year begins his seventh season as captain. While his on-court stats are now limited, club management says he remains “a steady presence” for the Wildcats.

Wildcats General Manager of Basketball Operations Danny Mills said Wagstaff’s influence is still highly valued within the group.

“Jesse continues to play an important role in our group, and we’re pleased to have him back for NBL27,” said Wildcats General Manager of Basketball Operations Danny Mills in a press release on Tuesday night.

“His ability to impact games in key moments, combined with what he brings around the group, is something we value highly.”

Wagstaff said signing a one-year extension “wasn't a difficult decision” once he decided it was best for his family.
