Roma keep European hopes alive with battling draw against Atalanta in Serie A...
AS Roma stayed in the race for Europe after fighting back to claim a 1-1 draw with Atalanta B.C. in Serie A at the Stadio Olimpico, halting a run of four consecutive head-to-head defeats to La Dea.
This battle for European places started at a frantic pace as Atalanta struck inside 12 minutes.
Mario Hermoso lost possession in his own half to Marten de Roon, who slipped the ball through to Nikola Krstovic. The Montenegro striker still had plenty to do, but he took a touch and fired low into the bottom-left corner.

Only Harry Kane has outscored Donyell Malen across Europe’s top five leagues since the Dutchman joined Roma, and he should have added another before the break.
First, Stephen El Shaarawy broke forward and teed up Malen with a tap-in, but his effort from point-blank range was smothered by Marco Carnesecchi.
The Atalanta keeper denied Malen again 10 minutes later, this time keeping out his strike from a tight angle inside the 18-yard box.
Roma kept pushing for an equaliser and got their reward on the stroke of half time, when Devyne Rensch did brilliantly to head the ball back across goal from the back post for Hermoso to volley in.
Both teams carved out chances early in the second half. First, half-time substitute Nicola Zalewski went close with a long-range effort that flashed just wide, before El Shaarawy was thwarted by Carnesecchi at his near post.
The Atalanta keeper was kept busy protecting his posts and again denied the Giallorossi at the near post, this time stopping a powerful Malen strike.
Hermoso was next to threaten for the hosts, but his header was comfortably claimed by the Atalanta keeper.

In the end, Atalanta rode out the Giallorossi pressure to secure a point that keeps them in the hunt for European qualification.
Roma, meanwhile, are now without a win in eight head-to-head meetings with La Dea but stay sixth, four points behind tonight’s opponents.
