Top White Sox prospect Noah Schultz tosses 4.1 innings in first big league start

White Sox top pitching prospect Noah Schultz made his MLB debut Tuesday vs the Rays, allowing four runs, three earned, over 4.1 innings with four walks and four strikeouts. The 22-year-old lefty is Chicago’s No. 2 prospect and the 44th-ranked prospect in baseball after posting a 1.29 ERA in Triple-A.

Chicago White Sox top pitching prospect Noah Schultz went 4.1 innings in his MLB debut on Tuesday night against the Tampa Bay Rays.


Schultz, 22, gave up four runs, three earned, on three hits with four walks and four strikeouts. His first strikeout came against Jonny DeLuca during a rough first inning.




Tampa Bay began to tee off on the rookie lefty in the first, with Ryan Vilade getting things started with a one-out RBI double to put them up 1-0.


The very next batter, Schultz committed a throwing error to home plate on a bunt, allowing two runners to score.


He then gave up another double to Ben Williamson in the fourth inning that put the Sox down 4-0.


Schultz is the No. 2 prospect in the White Sox system, the No. 1 pitcher, and the 44th-ranked prospect in all of baseball.


The six-foot-10 southpaw with a wicked slider and the build of Hall of Famer Randy Johnson gave up just two runs on four hits through 14 innings, a 1.29 ERA, with 19 strikeouts and two walks in Triple-A this season.




Schultz was selected 26th overall in the 2022 MLB Draft and has posted a 2.94 ERA through four minor-league seasons with 248 strikeouts and 77 walks in 202.1 innings.
