Shreyas Iyer's elegant half-century led Punjab Kings to a thrilling 5-wicket win over Chennai Super Kings, propelling them to the top of the IPL table. Iyer's 50 off 29 balls, featuring 4 boundaries and 3 sixes, was the highlight of Punjab's chase.

Chennai had posted a competitive 209-5, thanks to Ayush Mhatre's 73 and Shivam Dube's unbeaten 45. However, Punjab's strong opening partnership between Priyansh Arya (39 off 11) and Prabhsimran Singh (43 off 34) set the tone for their successful chase.

Punjab chased down 210-5, extending their record to a ninth successful IPL chase of over 200.

Ayush Mhatre sparked Chennai's chase with a blazing 73 off 43, Sarfaraz Khan fueled the middle overs with a quick 32 off 12, and Shivam Dube finished with an unbeaten 45 off 27 to seal the win.

Mhatre struggled initially, taking five deliveries to score his first run, but once he got going, he lit up the ground with gorgeous fours and mighty sixes.

He was pretty lucky to be dropped on 59 and 67, both times off the experienced leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal, who surprisingly only bowled three overs. Mhatre otherwise had a great partnership with captain Ruturaj Gaikwad, putting on 96 for the second wicket.

Punjab Kings fought back with wickets of Gaikwad, Mhatre, and Kartik Sharma in quick succession, but Sarfaraz Khan's cheeky cameo and Shivam Dube's late surge changed the game.

Dube and Sarfaraz were largely responsible for 64 runs off the last five overs. Earlier, Priyansh Arya had set the tone with a blazing opening spell, unleashing fours and sixes.

Prabhsimran Singh contributed to a solid 61-run opening stand with Priyansh Arya, who dominated the early exchanges with 39 off 11 balls (3 fours, 4 sixes).

Punjab kept building on the momentum with useful partnerships: Prabhsimran and Cooper Connolly added 34, then Connolly and Shreyas Iyer put on 32. But after Connolly's dismissal, Punjab needed 83 off 49 balls.

Shreyas Iyer took charge, announcing his presence with two sixes off leg-spinner Rahul Chahar in the 13th over. He followed it up with a four and six off Matt Henry in the 15th, bringing up his fifty in 26 balls.

Marcus Stoinis and Shashank Singh sealed the win with eight balls to spare, handing Chennai their second straight defeat. Punjab Kings celebrated their second win in as many matches.
