Harry Kane becomes first Englishman to score in 6 straight UCL games but Bayern fall 5-4 at PSG. Dembele, Kvaratskhelia, Neves net for holders...

Champions League holders Paris Saint-Germain edged Bayern Munich 5-4 in a frantic, superb semi-final first leg, setting a record for the highest-scoring last-four game in the competition’s history.

The heavyweight clash saw the defending champions face the competition favorites, with the atmosphere lit up before kickoff as giant tifos and a spectacular fire display filled the Parc des Princes.

Bayern opened the scoring in the 17th minute after William Pacho fouled Luis Diaz in the box, with Harry Kane sending Matvei Safonov the wrong way from the spot. The goal was his 54th across all competitions this season, making him the first Englishman to score in six straight UCL matches.

Safonov then denied Michael Olise in a one-on-one after Kane played him through, moments before Ousmane Dembele fired wide when clean through at the other end.

Dembele was bailed out immediately by Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, who darted into the area, cut inside and slotted into the far corner.

The quality on display was stunning, with Olise hitting the post after driving in from the right before Desire Doue’s effort deflected wide after a twisting run.

Dembele delivered the ensuing corner and Joao Neves, who netted when the sides met here in the league phase, timed his run to perfection to head past Manuel Neuer.

Olise leveled four minutes before the break, weaving into the box before rifling in his 20th goal of the season in all competitions.

But the drama continued in stoppage time when Alphonso Davies was ruled to have handled after a VAR review, and Dembele squeezed his penalty past Neuer for his 17th goal of the season.

The goals kept coming after the break as Kvaratskhelia curled in Achraf Hakimi’s cross to hit double figures in the UCL this season. Two minutes later, Dembele made it five with a low shot off the inside of the near post that left Neuer rooted.

The record-breaking eighth goal came just 20 minutes after halftime when Dayot Upamecano glanced in Joshua Kimmich’s free-kick for only his second goal of the season. Diaz then cut the deficit to one with a superb touch and finish from Kane’s pass.

It was the Colombian’s third goal versus PSG this season after his brace in the league phase, and the 100th scored by Bayern’s front three of Diaz, Kane and Olise in 2025/26.

PSG were denied a sixth when Senny Mayulu’s late effort struck the bar, but they held on for their 100th win in the Champions League proper. It was also a 50th UCL victory for Luis Enrique, making him the fastest coach to reach the milestone in just 77 games.

The result ends a run of five straight defeats against Bayern for the Parisians and snaps the Germans’ nine-game winning streak in all competitions ahead of next Wednesday’s second leg at the Allianz Arena.
