New Zealand made history in women's one-day international cricket, achieving the highest successful run chase ever with a thrilling two-wicket win over South Africa. Captain Amelia Kerr led the charge with an unbeaten 179, hitting 23 fours and a six from 139 balls, surpassing India's record chase against Australia's 338 at last year's World Cup.

Kerr's remarkable innings helped New Zealand overcome a daunting target of 347, with Isabella Gaze contributing a crucial 68 off 48 balls. The win levels the three-match series 1-1, setting up a decisive match on Saturday.

Amelia Kerr's score is her second-highest in ODI career, surpassed only by her 232 not out against Ireland in 2018, which remains the highest individual score in women's ODIs.

“It's number one,” Kerr said. “To get a big hundred like that in a big chase against a quality side is definitely number one.”

“I was really calm out there and just was so focused on, ‌simplifying it to each over and where we needed to be to get the job done,” she told reporters.

“When I did hit the winning runs, I was actually pretty fizzed. It shows how much it means to me. I'm a ‌pretty relaxed character with celebrations and all that stuff. But that ‌was special.”

The 25-year-old Kerr led New Zealand to a thrilling series-levelling win with two balls to spare. The teams will meet again on Saturday for the deciding match.
