Ecuador's Enner Valencia scores penalty in 1-1 draw vs Netherlands...

Netherlands and Ecuador played out a 1-1 draw, with the match marred by a quick red card for Denzel Dumfries and an injury scare for Ecuador's goalkeeper Gonzalo Valle, who was stretchered off with a knee injury.

Ronald Koeman made seven changes to the Netherlands squad that beat Norway 2-1 on Friday, giving starts to Mark Flekken, Stefan de Vrij, Nathan Ake, Jerdy Schoute, Quinten Timber, Xavi Simons, and Brian Brobbey. Ecuador, who finished second in South American qualifying, were looking sharp despite the draw.

The Netherlands got a flying start against Ecuador, with Willian Pacho inadvertently giving them the lead in the 3rd minute after fumbling a Cody Gakpo cross past Gonzalo Valle. Ecuador pushed back hard, with John Yeboah's shot hitting the post after a great run from Enner Valencia, showing they weren't going down without a fight.

The match was intense, with Denzel Dumfries getting a red card in the 12th minute, and Ecuador's goalkeeper Gonzalo Valle suffering a knee injury that required him to be stretchered off. Enner Valencia equalized for Ecuador from the penalty spot in the 23rd minute after Mark Flekken brought down Gonzalo Plata.

The opening phase was intense, with chances flying in from both sides. The Netherlands nearly doubled their lead when Donyell Malen's shot was headed away by Ecuador's goalkeeper Valle, who made a crucial save to keep it 1-1.

The game was on a knife's edge, with both teams creating chances.

The Netherlands' game took a hit early on Denzel Dumfries got a straight red card in the 12th minute for taking down John Yeboah, who was through on goal. This led to an early substitution, with Donyell Malen being replaced by Lutsharel Geertruida after just 17 minutes.

The game was already intense, and the red card made it tougher for the Netherlands.

The tumultuous friendly took yet another turn when Mark Flekken caused a penalty by taking down Gonzalo Plata and was put opposite former West Ham striker Enner Valencia - Ecuador's all-time top scorer - in the 24th minute. Valencia placed it perfectly in the bottom corner, beating Flekken by inches and putting the visitors back alongside the Dutch.

The Netherlands, whilst longing for half-time, still had Flekken to thank for keeping them in the game after a crucial save that denied Yeboah from handing Ecuador the lead.

The Netherlands made changes at halftime, switching to a 5-man defense with Jeremie Frimpong replacing Cody Gakpo as right wing-back. But Ecuador's struggles continued in the second half - their goalkeeper Gonzalo Valle was stretchered off in the 56th minute with a severe knee injury.

The second half was a bit of a stalemate, with Brian Brobbey's 65th-minute counter being the biggest threat, but his shot was blocked. Ecuador struggled to create chances, and the Netherlands' defensive plan held up, resulting in a 1-1 draw.

Ronald Koeman's side managed to contain Ecuador, who failed to create a single chance in the second half.
