Daniil Medvedev faced a humiliating 6-0, 6-0 loss to Matteo Berrettini in the Monte Carlo Masters second round. Medvedev's struggles began after he missed two break points in the opening game, leading to 30 unforced errors and five double faults.
The Russian tennis star's frustrations boiled over, smashing his racket seven times and receiving a code violation for unsportsmanlike conduct. Meanwhile, Alexander Zverev survived a huge scare, beating Cristian Garin.
Daniil Medvedev's frustrations boiled over in the second set as he smashed his racquet into the court four times after failing to win more than two points in any of the last 11 games. Matteo Berrettini capitalized on Medvedev's struggles, wrapping up a dominant 6-0, 6-0 victory in just 49 minutes - the first double-bagel defeat of Medvedev's career.

Medvedev's meltdown was sparked by his struggles on clay, committing five double faults and winning only 17 points. Berrettini, ranked 90th, delivered a stunning performance, missing only three shots in the entire match. The Italian's victory marked a rare feat, becoming only the fifth player to double-bagel a top-10 opponent since 1973.
“I think it was one of the best performances of my life,” Berrettini said.
“I think I missed three shots in the entire match and it is not easy against a tricky player like Daniil. I think the game plan was perfect and my weapons were working.”
Berrettini's next up is 18-year-old Joao Fonseca, who beat Arthur Rinderknech 7-5, 4-6, 6-3.
Zverev's Thrilling Comeback
Alexander Zverev, the world number three, survived a huge scare to defeat Chilean qualifier Cristian Garin 4-6, 6-4, 7-5 at the Monte Carlo Masters. Zverev was trailing 4-0 in the third set but staged an incredible comeback, winning the last five games to secure the win.

Zverev's victory was remarkable, considering he had lost the first set and was facing a potential shock exit. However, he managed to turn the match around, showcasing his resilience and determination. This win marks a strong start to Zverev's clay-court campaign, and he'll be looking to build on this momentum in his next match.
Garin had a match point opportunity when he was 5-3 up in the decider, but Zverev fought back, winning five games in a row. Zverev saved three break points in a tense 12th game, avoiding a tie-break, and finally sealed the win on his third match point.
“My level was not there at all to be honest,” Zverev said after taking two hours and 50 minutes to get over the line.
“But it was my first clay-court match in 11 months. I didn't have much time to prepare as I played well in Miami.
“I am happy to get the win. It was a tough match and he is someone playing well, especially here.”
Zverev's next opponent is unseeded Belgian Zizou Bergs, who upset 2023 champion Andrey Rublev 6-4, 6-1. Zverev, 28, hasn't won an ATP title since last year's Munich, and his last Masters win was in Paris, 2024.
Musetti Falls to Monaco's Vacherot
Lorenzo Musetti, the fourth seed, suffered a 7-6 (6), 7-5 defeat at the hands of Monaco's Valentin Vacherot in the Monte Carlo Masters. This was Musetti's second match since returning from an upper leg injury that forced him to retire from his Australian Open quarter-final in January.

Musetti had a strong showing last year, finishing runner-up in Monte Carlo to Carlos Alcaraz and reaching the semi-finals at Roland Garros, Madrid, and Rome. However, his early exit marks a disappointing start to this season's European clay swing.
Felix Auger-Aliassime, the sixth seed, dominated Marin Cilic in straight sets, while Casper Ruud, the 2024 finalist, edged out Corentin Moutet in a tight match. Jiri Lehecka, the Czech 11th seed, fought back from a set down to defeat Alejandro Tabilo from Chile. Meanwhile, seeds Flavio Cobolli and Francisco Cerundolo suffered losses.
