Javier Mascherano has stepped down as Inter Miami head coach, citing personal reasons. He departs one season after guiding the club to its greatest achievements to date.
The Argentine confirmed the decision in an official statement, thanking the club, players, and fans for his time in charge.
“I want to announce that, for personal reasons, I have decided to end my tenure as head coach of Inter Miami. First of all, I want to thank the club for their trust, all the staff for their collective effort, but especially the players, who made unforgettable moments possible,” he said.
"I also thank the fans and the club’s family, because without them none of this would have been possible. I will always keep the memory of our first trophy close to my heart and, wherever I go, I will continue to wish them the best of luck.”
Club management reacted quickly, with Jorge Mas praising Mascherano’s impact.
“Javier will always be part of the club’s history. Not just for the trophies won, like the MLS Cup, or for our run in the FIFA Club World Cup, but also for the example he set every day through his hard work and dedication. We respect his decision and thank him for everything.”

Inter Miami Appoints Guillermo Hoyos to Replace Mascheran
In the 2025 season, his first in charge, Mascherano achieved remarkable results, winning two major trophies, including the club’s first MLS Cup title, and setting a record with 101 goals scored in a single season.
Inter Miami also made history internationally, becoming the first MLS club to reach the FIFA Club World Cup knockout stage and the first CONCACAF team to beat a European side in an official match.
For the next phase, the club confirmed Guillermo Hoyos as head coach with Alberto Marrero appointed sporting director.
