Bafana Bafana Unbeaten vs Central America. Panama test Bafana's World Cup prep...
Bafana Bafana are heading into their upcoming friendlies against Panama with confidence, having never lost to a Central American team before.
The matches in Durban on Friday and Cape Town on Tuesday are crucial prep for the 2026 World Cup, with coach Hugo Broos wanting to test his team against Panama's Mexico-like style ahead of their June 11 clash with Mexico.
Bafana faced Panama once before, drawing 1-1 at the 2005 Gold Cup with Lungisani Ndlela on the scoresheet, but Panama took the win in a penalty shootout.
Bafana Bafana have a solid record against Central American teams, with three wins and three draws in six previous matches.
They've had particular success against Costa Rica, winning both meetings - including a 2-1 friendly win in 2003 with goals from Siyabonga Nomvete and Patrick Mayo.
Bafana Bafana and Panama had a 2015 friendly rematch, with Andile Jali scoring in a 1-0 win away from home.
On the same tour, they played a 1-1 draw with Honduras, with Erick Mathoho's early goal not enough to secure a win.
