Lens Mount stunning three-goal comeback to snatch draw against Brest in Ligue 1. Pierre Sage’s side remain three points behind PSG despite playing a game more...
RC Lens produced a stunning second-half comeback from three goals down to earn a 3-3 draw at Stade Brestois, extending the Pirates’ winless run to five games (D2, L3).
Fresh off booking a Coupe de France final spot Tuesday, Lens knew they needed another strong performance in Brest to keep their Ligue 1 title hopes alive.
Abdallah Sima missed an early chance for the visitors, and Pierre Sage’s side were punished in the seventh minute when Daouda Guindo drilled a superb 25-yard strike into the bottom corner for his first goal of the season.
Lens had won 14 of their last 15 league matches against bottom-half sides this season and pushed for a quick response, with Adrien Thomasson firing wide from the edge of the box.
But the hosts doubled their lead before the half-hour. Guindo turned provider this time, delivering a perfect cross for Lucas Tousart to head home a rare goal.
Sima missed another big chance for Les Sang et Or, failing to convert a close-range header. Grateful for the reprieve, Brest added a third on the stroke of halftime.
Ludovic Ajorque picked out Éric Junior Dina Ebimbe on the edge of the box, and the Eintracht Frankfurt loanee swept a clinical finish past Robin Risser to give the Pirates a commanding advantage.
Shell-shocked by his side’s first-half display, Sage made four changes early in the second half, including bringing on Florian Thauvin.
The Frenchman made an immediate impact, capitalizing on a Soumaïla Coulibaly mistake to fire home emphatically.
Lifted by that lifeline, Lens scored a second four minutes later. Saud Abdulhamid’s cross was expertly volleyed home by Sima to set up a fascinating final 25 minutes.
Les Sang et Or kept numbers forward chasing an unlikely equalizer. Grégoire Coudert stood firm in the Brest goal to deny Mamadou Sangaré, while Allan Saint-Maximin and Odsonne Edouard both struck the woodwork.

Despite the missed chances, an equalizer finally came in the fourth minute of stoppage time. Saint-Maximin collected Sangaré’s pass and curled a terrific effort into the far corner to snatch a dramatic point at the death.
The draw keeps Sage’s side within three points of leaders PSG, though they’ve played a game more.
