Xavi Simons Stretchered Off: ACL Fears for Netherlands Star
Tottenham’s Xavi Simons was stretchered off vs Wolves with a suspected ACL injury. The Netherlands midfielder could miss the World Cup, joining Jerdy Schouten on Koeman’s long injury list.
With 47 days until the World Cup, Xavi Simons’ suspected ACL injury deepens Ronald Koeman’s selection crisis. The Netherlands have already lost Schouten, with De Jong, De Ligt, and Frimpong also missing games...
Spurs midfielder Xavi Simons was stretchered off during Saturday’s Premier League match between Tottenham Hotspur and Wolverhampton Wanderers after suffering a seemingly serious knee injury.
Simons was battling with Wolves defender Hugo Bueno when the Dutchman went down, clutching his knee and screaming in pain. Spurs medical staff sent Simons back on after initial checks, but he had to be stretchered off moments later.
No diagnosis has been confirmed yet, but there are fears Simons injured his anterior cruciate ligament. An ACL injury could rule him out for up to a year.
Spurs boss Roberto de Zerbi gave a positive update about Simons' health following his side's 1-0 win: “I spoke with the doctor, but they dont know (the extent). They have to see the player on Monday and Tuesday,” the Italian said about Simons and Solanke, who was taken off with an injury as well, but walked off on his own power.
“We will see in the next few days. He (Simons) felt pain, but I spoke with him, and he feels better than when he got his injury,“ De Zerbi continued.

Koeman’s World Cup Plans Hit Again
Xavi Simons’ potential injury adds another problem for Netherlands manager Ronald Koeman with the FIFA World Cup just 47 days away. Koeman has already faced multiple absences, with Frenkie de Jong, Emmanuel Emegha, Matthijs de Ligt, Mark Flekken, and Jeremie Frimpong all missing the March friendlies and potentially more.
PSV captain and Oranje midfielder Jerdy Schouten is already out of the World Cup after tearing his ACL in early April.
