KKR Back Struggling Cameron Green Despite Winless IPL Start
Kolkata Knight Riders in crisis, Green Misfiring, bowlers injured

Winless Kolkata Knight Riders still back $2.77M man Cameron Green to fire. Injuries hit KKR’s pace attack as they sit last after CSK loss.

KKR sit 10th after four losses. Cameron Green fell for a golden duck vs CSK and is yet to bowl at full tilt. Pathirana still unavailable....

Kolkata Knight Riders still believe marquee signing Cameron Green will deliver, but the IPL’s only winless side needs the Australian all-rounder to justify his tag as the league’s most expensive overseas recruit.

The two-time champions are bottom of the 10-team table with just one point from a washout against Punjab Kings. Tuesday’s 32-run loss to Chennai Super Kings was their fourth defeat and pushed them further adrift of the playoff spots.

Green cost Kolkata a record $2.77 million and was brought in to spearhead their bid for a third title, but he hasn’t clicked yet.

The 26-year-old featured only as a batter in his first three games while finishing rehab from a lower back injury, yet the return has been underwhelming - just 56 runs across five innings.

In Chennai, he struggled on both fronts, leaking 30 runs in two wicketless overs before departing for a first-ball duck.

“He has not had the start he would've liked but he's obviously a quality player,” bowling coach Tim Southee said after the loss.

“He has not had a lot of ‌cricket leading to the IPL.

“Of all people, he'll be the most disappointed himself the way he's started. But he's a great cricketer and I'm sure he'll bounce back at some stage in this tournament.”

Kartik Tyagi took 2-35 from his four overs, yet Chennai still powered to 192-5 against Kolkata’s understrength pace attack.

“The results are not going our way,” Southee said.

“In the last few games we've seen glimpses, just not enough to put on a performance worthy of a win. The number of injuries hasn't helped, but we're impressed with the way ‌Kartik Tyagi bowled.”

Kolkata are without Harshit Rana and Akash Deep due to injuries and had to leave out overseas seamer Mustafizur Rahman amid diplomatic tensions between India and Bangladesh.

They’re also waiting on Sri Lankan seamer Matheesha Pathirana as he recovers from a calf injury.
