Pep Guardiola is eyeing a historic milestone as Manchester City aims for an eighth consecutive FA Cup semi-final appearance against Liverpool on Saturday. This would be a remarkable achievement, especially considering the tough competition they're facing.

City recently won the League Cup by beating Arsenal, and Guardiola hopes to maintain that momentum as they push for the FA Cup and Premier League titles. The team has shown resilience, like their comeback win against Liverpool at Anfield in February, winning 2-1.

“Once you finish one, ‌it is the next one,” Guardiola told reporters on ‌Friday.

“Tomorrow we have the chance to reach an incredible milestone, to make eight semi-finals in a row. It's never happened... it is a ‌prestigious competition, and one of the toughest, special opponents for all of ‌us, Liverpool.”

Manchester City have been on a roll under Pep Guardiola, bagging six Premier League titles, two FA Cups, and five League Cups since he joined in 2016. However, Liverpool has consistently given them a run for their money, with Guardiola struggling to get the better of them. In fact, his win rate against Liverpool is the lowest against any Premier League club, with just nine wins and seven draws in 26 matches.

Guardiola's struggles against Liverpool are evident, and they'll be looking to turn things around in their upcoming FA Cup quarter-final clash. City have beaten Liverpool twice in the Premier League this season, but it was a tight win at Anfield in February. Guardiola praised Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah, calling him “one of the greatest” and an “absolute legend.”

“So many times they have been the rival, the biggest, biggest one... top contender, top class players, all of them. Hopefully we have to perform in the level we did against Arsenal to reach the next step,” Guardiola said.

Manager Arne Slot heaped praise on Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah, saying “it's been unbelievable what he did for this club, for so many years, every three days, scoring the goals he did, having the assists, having the impact that he had on this club, winning the trophies... I can only hope that he can add two extra trophies to it towards the end of the season.”

Slot's comments come as Salah prepares to leave Liverpool at the end of the season, with his departure announced earlier this week. Despite his impending exit, Salah is available for Saturday's FA Cup quarter-final clash against Manchester City.

City edged Liverpool 2-1 at Anfield in February, but it wasn't easy - they trailed before staging a late comeback to snatch the win.

“Absolutely. One of the greatest. The numbers, the consistency. What a player... absolute ‌legend, of course for Liverpool, but (also) for the Premier League,” Guardiola said.

Guardiola sidestepped questions about Rodri's comments on a potential Real Madrid move, saying it's his personal decision when his contract expires at the end of the season.

“No clue, no opinion... because I know the intention of the club, I know the intention, I think, of him, but I ‌don't know," Guardiola said.

Can Pep Guardiola make history with Man City's eighth straight FA Cup semi-final appearance?
