Recap & Highlights

How It Played Out

Game 1 between the Oilers and Ducks was the only series opener with a penalty-free first period.

Edmonton struck first when Jason Dickinson scored to make it 1-0 with under three minutes left in the first.

It took just one minute for the Oilers to double the lead before the first intermission.

Kasperi Kapanen made it 2-0, with an assist from Leon Draisaitl in his first game back after missing more than a month due to injury.

Edmonton outshot Anaheim 14-4 in the first. The second period flipped the script fast.

Just 17 seconds in, Troy Terry cut the lead to 2-1 with his first goal of the playoffs.

It was the second-fastest goal to start a period in Ducks playoff history, behind Samuel Pahlsson’s 14-second goal in the 2007 Western Conference semifinals.

Just like that, Anaheim’s rally was on.

Leo Carlsson, who had an assist on Terry’s goal, scored four minutes later to tie it 2-2.

Terry and Carlsson became just the second and third players in Ducks history with multiple points in their playoff debut. Paul Kariya was the first in 1997.

Edmonton got a chance to retake the lead when Anaheim’s Alex Killorn was called for tripping.

But the Oilers couldn’t convert on the power play. Eight minutes later, the Ducks got a man advantage of their own and made it count.

Terry buried his second goal of the game to put Anaheim up 3-2 going into the third, tying the franchise record for most goals in a playoff period.

After getting dominated in the first, the Ducks adjusted in the second and outshot Edmonton 13-12.

With the third period playing even, the Oilers caught the Ducks’ defense flat-footed. Dickinson buried a rebound for his second goal of the game to tie it 3-3.

Edmonton finished its own rally when Kapanen netted his second of the game to put the Oilers up 4-3 with 1:49 left.

Draisaitl and Vasily Podkolzin each picked up their second assists on Kapanen’s goal as Edmonton held off one of the league’s best late-game teams for the Game 1 win.

Edmonton finished the game outshooting the Ducks 34-27 and outhitting them 47-37.
