Dodgers closer Edwin Diaz set for elbow surgery to remove loose bodies...

Los Angeles Dodgers star closer Edwin Diaz will have elbow surgery Wednesday and is expected to miss at least three months, the team said.

The procedure will remove loose bodies from his elbow. A three-month timeline puts Diaz’s return in late July or early-to-mid August.

The reigning National League Reliever of the Year has struggled this season after signing a three-year, $69 million deal with the team last offseason.

Diaz, 32, has allowed seven runs on nine hits over six innings, putting up a 10.50 ERA with 10 strikeouts and five walks while notching four saves in seven appearances. The veteran has been one of baseball’s top closers across his 10-year career, recording 25+ saves in six seasons and an ERA under 2.00 in four.

He earned his third All-Star nod last season, finishing with a 1.63 ERA and 28 saves across 62 appearances while closing out 48 games. This is Diaz’s second major injury since entering the league.

In 2023, he missed the entire season after tearing the patellar tendon in his right knee during Puerto Rico’s postgame celebration following a win over the Dominican Republic in the World Baseball Classic.

Los Angeles currently lead the NL West at 15-6, which is also the best record in baseball.
