Last-gasp winner hands Brondby second straight win at Viborg

Brondby made it two wins in a row after Dennis’ last-gasp strike sealed a 1-0 victory at Viborg. Despite a disallowed early goal and chances for both sides, the substitute’s finish settled an end-to-end contest.

Substitute Emmanuel Dennis smashed home a rebound in the 90th minute to give Brondby a win at Viborg. Steve Cooper’s side are now just three points off third after Lucas Lund’s string of saves kept the hosts in it until late.

Emmanuel Dennis struck in the final minute to hand Brondby a second straight win with a 1-0 victory at Viborg. The result further boosts morale after they failed to score in their first 11 matches of the spring season.

Despite plenty of chances at both ends, Viborg and Brondby looked set to share the points before an injury-time winner snatched all three for the visitors.

The 1-0 win puts Brondby back in contention for bronze.

They now sit just three points behind third-placed FC Nordsjaelland ahead of their game against AGF on Thursday.

Substitute Dennis proved the match-winner, smashing a rebound into the roof of the net after a frantic scramble in Viborg’s box.

A goalless draw would have been harsh on the spectacle, with fans in Viborg treated to an entertaining game and plenty of action in both boxes.

Brondby had the ball in the net inside the first minute, but Nicolai Vallys handled in the build-up and the goal was ruled out.

Brondby boss Steve Cooper named the same XI that started Friday’s 6-0 rout of Sonderjyske. But they seemed to have used up their goals in that game.

Midway through the first half, Viborg keeper Lucas Lund pulled off a fine double save to deny Jacob Ambaek and Nicolai Vallys.

A minute later, Viborg’s Lukas Kirkegaard headed against the post, with Jeppe Gronning nodding the rebound over.

Vallys missed the first chance after the restart too, with his header parried by Lucas Lund as the two sides kept trading blows.

After an hour, Viborg’s Charly Nouck flashed a terrific volley just wide. With 15 minutes left, Brondby’s Sonderjyske hat-trick hero Jacob Ambæk twisted into the Viborg box but dragged his shot wide.

In injury time, Lucas Lund saved twice in a goalmouth scramble, but the ball dropped to Emmanuel Dennis to smash home the winner in an entertaining contest.
