Clinical Nice Stun Strasbourg to Reach First Coupe de France Final in 29 Years
| Nice beat Strasbourg to set up Coupe de France final |
OGC Nice put league struggles aside to beat Strasbourg 2-0 and reach the Coupe de France final. Wahi netted from open play and the spot, while Maxime Dupe’s key saves kept Strasbourg at bay at Stade de la Meinau.
Wahi’s second-half double fired Nice past Strasbourg and into the Coupe de France final. VAR awarded the penalty for his second as Nice capitalized on Strasbourg misses to set up a decider with Lens...
Nice seal Coupe de France final spot with 2-0 win over Strasbourg.
Relegation-threatened OGC Nice set aside their poor Ligue 1 form - one win in 11 - to beat RC Strasbourg 2-0 and book a place in the Coupe de France final.
With both clubs chasing a fourth Coupe de France title, the Stade de la Meinau produced an electric atmosphere. It was rewarded with a lively, but ultimately goalless, first half.
Both teams had clear chances to open the scoring, but a lack of composure in the box let them down.
Nice carved out the first big opening when Elye Wahi surged toward goal. The angle opened up, but his toe-poked shot cannoned off the outside of the post, possibly with a touch from Mike Penders.
Martial Godo looked the hosts’ most dangerous outlet as they pushed for the opener, but he wasn’t at his clinical best.
He was unfortunate to see a curling effort from the edge of the area drift just over, but should have done better with another chance minutes later.
Julio Enciso’s goal-bound shot was blocked and fell to Godo inside the six-yard box. With the home crowd ready to explode, he somehow blazed the rebound over.
Missed chances looked set to define the game after the break when Enciso dragged a shot wide after breaking clear. Strasbourg were punished immediately at the other end.
Jonathan Clauss unlocked the defence with a perfectly timed pass to send Wahi through on goal, and he stayed composed to fire past Penders into the bottom corner.

Despite trailing, Strasbourg threw everything at Nice with the home crowd right behind them. But a mix of poor finishing and brilliant goalkeeping kept them out.
Enciso came closest with a bullet header from close range that looked certain to go in, but Maxime Dupé produced a stunning reflex save to deny him.
Once again, a costly Strasbourg miss was punished. VAR ruled that Ismaël Doukouré had brought down Mohamed-Ali Cho in the box, and Wahi stepped up to smash the penalty home with under 10 minutes left.
The home side pushed in vain for a grandstand finish but couldn’t break through. The result sends Nice to the final against RC Lens as they bid to end a 29-year wait for the trophy.
Strasbourg will be frustrated with the display, but still have a UEFA Conference League semi-final against Rayo Vallecano to look forward to as they chase silverware.
