Netflix's first MLB game goes awry with delayed start, wonky broadcast, and missed ABS challenge. Yankees shut out Giants 7-0...
The New York Yankees kicked off the 2026 MLB season with a bang, shutting out the San Francisco Giants 7-0 on Opening Day! The Yankees' pitchers dominated, throwing a combined three-hit shutout with just two walks and six strikeouts.
Offensively, the Yankees were nearly flawless, with every hitter recording a hit except for reigning American League MVP Aaron Judge. Judge went 0-for-5 with four strikeouts, a rare off-day for the star player.
Aaron Judge's 2026 season is off to a blazing start. He recorded a four-strikeout game in the Yankees' season opener, a feat he didn't achieve once in 2025. The Yankees themselves are riding high, extending their Opening Day win streak to five games, the longest in MLB. They're also on a hot roll, winning eight of their last nine games.
The Giants, on the other hand, are struggling with their Opening Day performances, losing six of their last eight games. Meanwhile, the Yankees shut out the Giants 7-0, marking their first Opening Day shutout on the road since 1967. Max Fried got the win, while Logan Webb took the loss for the Giants.
Giants Start Strong, But Yankees Take Over
Logan Webb kicked off the 2026 MLB season with a bang, striking out Trent Grisham in the first at-bat and sending Aaron Judge down on strikes shortly after. Webb got Cody Bellinger to pop out, finishing the first inning 1-2-3. Despite the strong start, the Giants couldn't keep the Yankees at bay, falling 7-0.
The Giants had a brief threat in the bottom half of the first, putting runners on first and second with one out. Luis Arraez drew the first walk of the 2026 season, and Rafael Devers got the first hit. But Max Fried stepped up, getting the Yankees out of the jam.
The Yankees' offense exploded in the top of the second inning. Logan Webb got things started by inducing a groundout from Ben Rice, but things quickly turned for the Giants as Webb gave up a single to Giancarlo Stanton and then hit Jazz Chisholm Jr., putting runners on first and second.
Jose Caballero got the 2026 MLB season's first RBI with a double to ft field, scoring Giancarlo Stanton and making it 1-0. Ryan McMahon followed up with a bases-clearing single, pushing the lead to 3-0.
The Yankees kept piling on, with Austin Wells singling and Trent Grisham hitting a bases-clearing triple, pushing the lead to 5-0. Aaron Judge struck out for the second time in two innings, and Cody Bellinger followed suit, ending the top half of the inning.

The Giants nearly had a quiet bottom half of the second, but Max Fried hit Casey Schmitt, spoiling the shutout bid. Both teams then went 1-2-3 in the third. In the fourth, three outs were recorded in four batters. It wasn't until the top of the fifth that the Yankees added some insurance.
Cody Bellinger and Ben Rice got things started with singles, and then Giancarlo Stanton hit one to bring Bellinger home from second, forcing Rice to third and making it 6-0. Jazz Chisholm grounded into a force out, and Rice scored on a throwing error, pushing the lead to 7-0. Chisholm then became the first player of the 2026 season to swipe a base.
The Giants went 1-2-3 again, and the game headed into the top of the sixth. Logan Webb came out of the game after giving up seven runs (six earned) with one walk and seven strikeouts, surpassing 1,000 career strikeouts.

Keaton Winn came on and ended the sixth unscathed, striking out Aaron Judge for his fourth K of the game. The Giants' offense was shut down again, with Max Fried getting them 1-2-3.
JT Brubaker relieved Winn in the seventh, getting out with one walk and one hit. Jazz Chisholm's single was one of five Yankees hits off first pitches, showing their aggressive approach.
Max Fried's season debut ended after he forced Jung Hoo Lee into a lineout to start the seventh. He's now part of Yankees history, becoming just the fourth pitcher to throw at least six innings on Opening Day with two hits and no runs allowed.

Despite a late push, the Giants couldn't get anything done, falling 7-0 with just three hits. It was a tough day for San Fran, but the Yankees' pitching and offense were too much.
Netflix's first-ever MLB game got off to a rocky start, with opening ceremonies running until 8:30 p.m. Eastern, 25 minutes later than the scheduled 8:05 p.m. start time. The delayed start was just the beginning of a rough night for the streaming giant.
The broadcast was widely panned, with issues like a wonky scorebug that was often invisible and ugly holographic ads behind home plate. But perhaps the biggest misstep was putting non-baseball personalities like Bert Kreischer and Jameis Winston in charge of hosting duties.
The broadcast also dropped the ball on the first ABS challenge in MLB regular season history, missing it entirely for dugout interviews. Jose Caballero's challenge on a strike call was upheld, making it the first failed challenge in MLB history - and fans at home didn't even get to see it live. Luckily, the clip made it to social media.
