Bayern Munich has advanced to the Champions League quarter-finals with a commanding 4-1 win over Atalanta, sealing a 10-2 aggregate victory. This marks their largest margin of victory in a European knockout tie since 2009.

Atalanta needed a massive comeback, requiring at least five goals at the Allianz Arena, but Bayern's dominance from the start made it clear they were in control. Harry Kane scored a brace, and Michael Olise's influence was significant, setting up one goal and scoring another.

Marco Sportiello was forced into a number of simple early saves, but the difficulty level was increased for the Atalanta stopper when a VAR review decided that Harry Kane’s volley had struck the hand of Giorgio Scalvini and awarded a penalty.

Sportiello stepped away from his line in saving Kane’s spot kick, forcing a retake which the England international duly dispatched.

Aiming to play for pride, the visitors were soon presented with a golden chance when Charles De Ketelaere raced through, but pressure from the onrushing defenders forced him to pass wide.

Though Bayern continued to dominate, the remainder of the half was promising for Atalanta, with Mario Pasalic testing Jonas Urbig, but the hosts turned the screw following the restart.

Bayern’s individual quality was on full display as Kane brilliantly turned between a pair of defenders on the edge of the area before powering a shot into the far top corner.

Then, Lennart Karl made it three after being picked out by Luis Diaz on the right side of the box and passing beyond Sportiello for his fourth of the UCL campaign.

Atalanta's efforts to give their fans something to cheer ultimately proved futile, as Bayern struck again on the counter-attack. Luis Diaz lifted his finish over Sportiello to seal a double-figures aggregate win.

The visitors did eventually get a consolation goal when Lazar Samardzic headed in Mario Pasalic's flick at the far post, but it was little comfort for Raffaele Palladino's side.

Bayern Munich's dominant performance has secured their spot in the Champions League quarter-finals, with a convincing 10-2 aggregate win over Atalanta. This marks their ninth win in 10 UCL games this season, setting up a thrilling clash with record champions Real Madrid.

Atalanta's UCL campaign has come to an end, unable to replicate their previous success against Borussia Dortmund or their 2024 Europa League final win over Bayer Leverkusen. They become the last Italian team to exit the competition this season.
